These annual roports are made for an media business arena in Christchurch. We needed Corporate and Residential direction and flowing typography. This typography also winds super hero polarity of existence into the artful form of strong clear and trusted.
Established by Anthony Leighs in 1995, Leighs Construction has grown into a multi-million dollar business. The South Island operations are managed from our head office in Christchurch, with our Auckland branch having opened in 2015.
I was freelanced by Q Brand to design for this ptich for Leighs construction profile. I was briefed to design the use of strong use of colour, and to showcase there imagery, the design was to have a magazine feel to it that appealed less corporate, i designed each page with the care of typography and for the potential reader to feel confident reading the profile. We use bold colour with using the shape “L” placing copy in between the shapes consistency through out the brand, including positioning statements.
The client wanted something modern and clean with something different in a experience of opening a profile, so I designed a layout that was reflected on what they do best, with a special opening page cover, with the orange behind the black cover, stitched bounded, the typography design is crafted to meander across the pages, timeless and intriguing, like all of work, is designed to set our clients in good steed for years to come. I did this job at Q an agency.

The New Zealand International Cello Festival and Competition (formerly known as the Adam International Cello Festival)
was the vision of Professor Alexander Ivashkin, while on the staff at the University of Canterbury School of Music. His goal was to present the opportunity for gifted young musicians in New Zealand to meet and compete with their international peers. He became the Artistic Director of the festival, which was first held in Christchurch in 1995 with acclaimed Russian cellist, pianist and conductor, Mstislav Rostropovich, becoming the festival’s patron. This was a poster made for an art exhibition in Dunedin. How do we captivate the rambling eye of the roaming someone’s who might be trawling the streets for a reason to step inside your art theatre, gallery and bookstore? We figured to say ‘come on in’ we’ve got it all, needed fun and flowing typography. We wanted to express movement and the wave of art, theatre and culture rolling discreetly into one another, as it does the culture we’re woven within. This typography also winds the black and white polarity of existence into the artful form of craftily honed words, legibly, blurring the world between words, form and art.

This is an American Mall who needed to brighten their existence and to lighten hearts after an extensive renovation. Richmond needed a new image as they launched themselves into a huge marketing campaign designed around the bi-line of ‘we’re growing’. We wanted Richmond to be seen as bright and fresh and with the unconscious expectation of a mall with windows. Sprawling beside a large river the food court had been renovated to utilize the view so this brand image is imbued with natural light. This was pieced into the varied colours of the season with the abstract conveyance of growth, blossoming into something beautiful.

Hafele needed to open the door to design conscious architects who expect a handle to be stunning, before they’ll grab it, let alone recommend it to their clients.
Hafele produce knobs and handles with stunningly fine details but their products naturally muted hues meant creative photography and layout was required to showcase the fact they have bumps and nodules, in all the right places. Stunning typography, clever photography and contemporary colours all rounded into a highly successful brochure with knobs pleasant enough to hang onto, long after the door has been successfully opened.

Selaks approached myself at Gardner Holt, requiring a refined label for one of New Zealand’s most traditional wine brands.
The ‘Wine Makers Favourite’ is their mid level wine and its distinction is conveyed with delicacy and discretion. Although difficult to see in this imagery, finely spun detailing within the base of the foil subtly reminds of bubbles within. The effect of a UV print through the body of the label means that, when seen from different angles, consumers are unconsciously drawn to the fine, sparkly, detail. The typography was tailored to produce an old school, ‘stamp look’ while dots between segments on the label reminds of the delight in bubbles. The theme of ‘traditionally reliable’ ensures this wine continuing to thrive over the test of time.

Fresh out of culinary school after switching gears from a career in data processing, Douglas Nelson found himself falling back on a familiar hobby.
Roughly eight years ago a friend taught him how to brew his own kombucha and soon he was producing small batches for personal use. As his graduation from the culinary arts program at City College of San Francisco neared in December 2016, Nelson gave more serious consideration to expanding the operation.
“There aren’t any kombucha breweries on the Peninsula,” Nelson said. “Why not give us a home team kind of kombucha?”

The old industrial precinct from the 19th century is now home to a retail complex boasting stunning architecture and art, and home to a concentration of boutique shops; a hub of creativity and hospitality, retail, craft and entertainment. Its a lovely place to adventure. I designed this idea through Q Agency as another pitch, it was an rough idea but it had potential if we had more time to developed.
